About Me.

My Journey: Becoming M

Early Life and Education

Growing up in Tottenham, a vibrant and diverse community, I was raised in a mixed White and Black Caribbean family. My parents separated during my early years, and I have remained close to both my Mum and Dad, drawing strength, love and care from their unique influences.

My educational journey truly began at a Catholic secondary school, which instilled in me a sense of discipline and a strong moral compass. My pursuit of higher education led me to Bournemouth University where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, laying the foundation for my future endeavours.  Whilst studying, I started my first business in 2018, becoming a managing director at 21, a venture that sparked my entrepreneurial spirit. I then continued my academic journey at Queen Mary University of London, where I obtained a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology and Mental Health.

Professional Experience

With 8 years of experience in the mental health sector, both private sphere and the NHS, I have worked with adults and young people experiencing difficulties in their life. Most recently, I have become passionate in dedicating my career to working with young people grappling with suicidal thoughts, emotional exhaustion, trauma and much more. This work is deeply meaningful to me, as it has allowed me to support those in need and help them find a path toward healing and recovery.

Personal Challenges and Triumphs

Navigating life's challenges whilst maintaining a sense of balance and purpose can be a formidable task. My journey has been marked by the complexities of living with High-Functioning Anxiety and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). Despite the intense anxieties, mood swings, and other symptoms that accompany these conditions, I have not only managed to function but have thrived amidst the chaos.

High-Functioning Anxiety and PMDD

High-Functioning Anxiety is often an invisible companion, characterised by constant worry, rumination, and the relentless pursuit of perfection. Coupled with PMDD, which intensifies these feelings with added depression, fatigue, irritability, anger, and mood swings, the combination can be overwhelming. Nevertheless, I have learned to harness my resilience and determination to navigate these challenges in order to strive towards my potential.

A Journey of Resilience

My late teens and early twenties were particularly trying. During this period, I faced numerous trials that left me feeling deflated and hopeless. However, I decided to take control of my life. I embarked on a journey of personal growth, incorporating new regular habits (exercising, journalling, affirmations), engaged in coaching, and self-help Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). These resources, combined with a belief in myself became the foundation of my personal toolbox, enabling me to achieve my goals despite the obstacles.

Triumphs in Healing

My most recent challenges required me to embark on a unique healing journey. This period required isolation, realignment, and refocus. Despite the necessary solitude, I found strength in introspection and have since emerged more aligned to my personal and professional goals with an optimistic view of the future.

Through this process, I acknowledged the importance of helping myself and recognised that my inner personal and spiritual growth had reached new heights. By reevaluating my life and mindset, I found strength in self-determination, continually surprising myself with my ability to overcome roadblocks, setbacks, and background noise.

I am living proof that, despite any odds stacked against you, you are in control of your life. My journey has taught me that support from others, willingness to learn and self-determination are powerful tools for overcoming adversity. Above all, it has taught me the power of resilience and the importance of self-awareness in overcoming life's hurdles. My experiences have not only shaped who I am today but have also prepared me for future challenges with a fortified spirit and a clearer sense of purpose. Every day, I remain committed to learning something new and achieving my best, whilst continuing to strive for excellence in all areas of my life, indeed the journey continues!
